This meal is quick and easy on the trail. And it's so good that I was craving more of it after the trip was over!

This meal made me smile when I read about it on the website. I have been using dehydrated black beans for a fast trail lunch for years. Packit Gourmet takes this idea a step further with this entree. While the instructions call for it to be spooned into a fresh tortilla, I prefer to eat it with a spoon or on bread of some sort. Any way this meal is prepared it is nice to be able to add water to the bag in the morning and have lunch ready by the time I stopped around noon. There were cook and eat instructions, but I went with the 'cold' bag option and had a great lunch. This was a great new take on an old standard for me.

While the portion is small, eating it on bread more than fills me up which makes it a great lunch or even an addition to a dinner if I wanted something lighter to top off a big meal.

I make something similar to this myself, but decided to give it a go and I was very impressed with the flavor. Worth buying. Only complaint is that they were/are a bit skimpy on the cheese.

Yum! Three of us ladies did the Resurrection Trail (AK) last month. I had both black and pinto beans and loved them both, as did my friends who talked me into a taste. They were simple to prepare and delicious to eat. I opted to just eat with a spoon as I'm low-carbing and off wheat. (made some carb exception for the nutritional value of the beans) Hoping that I have one left to take backpacking or x-country skiing this winter.

I'm very happy with all the Packit products I took on this trip and will definately be a return customer. Oh yes, when I initially ordered I ordered extra to sample before our trip.

This makes a terrific lunch on the trail! I packed my JetBoil and made it hot with tortillas and my two boys and I loved it. Hearty and delicious! My 14 year-old son said he would be happy with these at a restaurant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a Cook–in–Cozy™ recommended?

We recommend that all of our hot meals spend time "steep-cooking" while snuggled in a Cook-in-Cozy. We find this method promotes a more consistent temperature and steady cook time for Cook-in-Bag preparation; and results in a better serving temperature for your meal. When not in use, our Cook-in-Cozy folds away nicely in your pack for storage and weighs in at only 1.4oz.
