Delicious. This was my first try with rehydrated trail food. I didn’t expect much, but this tasted like real food and I loved that it was a tiny bit spicy.

Tastes good, but too much work to prepare, especially for dinner, when you are tired.

We completely understand! Our Shepherd's Cottage Pie is a 2 part meal meaning that there are 2 Cook-in-Bags that require boiling water. The outer Cook-in-Bag will contain the gravy, meat and vegetables and an interior Cook-in-Bag will contain the mashed potatoes. We've considered selling the components separately, but they're just too dang good together!

Delicious. Hearty. This is one of the best trail meals I have tried. Will buy more.

This has changed my opinion of backpacking food. It actually tastes spot on. Simple to make I was surprised how good it was on the side of the trail. Pretty easy to make and tastes awesome. Best dinner ever. You can't go wrong with this one.

One of my favorites! Flavorful and filling. Takes a little extra work to prepare so plan ahead, but well worth the extra effort!

You cant go wrong with this one. Fairly high on the sodium intake but no matter what season this fits in for the hike. Throw some tobasco in and a nap later.

I love, love this meal! While it takes a little more prep than the average boil in a bag meal, the result is delicious and quite the envy generator around camp! A gourmet treat out in the middle on no where - thank you!

I found Packit Gourmet as I was looking for alternatives to what is readily available in outdoor stores. Much of what is available caters to people who prefer spicy dishes. That's a bit of a problem for me having a capsaicin allergy.

The description of this cottage pie didn't mention it was spicy but I found out the hard way while on a 5-day hike. After two spoonfuls, I had to toss the remainder and dose up on antihistamines. I just don't understand the need to ruin a good dish with the heavy-handed use of spices, especially those with a chilli pepper source.

My daughter and I thought this was excellent. We had never tried packit gourmet before. Both of us agreed that this was the first pre-packaged meal we had eaten that simply did not taste like a pre-packaged meal. I thought it was a hair salty, but no overwhelmingly so. The portions seemed very generous. The rehydrating time seemed a little stingy - when I make this again I'll extend it by a couple of minutes. All in all, an excellent dish.

Zero stars.
My husband and I tried it on our first night out and we could not finish it. I would never order it again.

I added all the ingredients at once then read the directions. Lol. It still came out good though. Great flavors and texture is on point. Will definitely try again.

Had very high expectations for this, which I'm happy to say were met. Prep was very simple, everything tasted fantastic. Filling, will buy again.

5 Stars
That's 5 stars from each of three people who's tastes are all very different. The "stew" portion is very tasty and hearty all by itself. The addition of the potatoes (which were, by the way, the best mashed potatoes I've ever had) put this meal over the top! This one 2-person meal satisfied three HUNGRY backpackers.
This meal will go on every trip I make.

I loved this!

Bought it to try it with either my wife or one of my Assistant Scoutmasters. Wife worked this past weekend, and just decided to try it decision of the weekend!

Thick and hearty, a real rib-sticker (in a good way) and just a great tasting meal. Ordering more of these, for sure.

by Jim StCyr
My wife and I had this for supper on our first backpacking trip. The directions were well laid out and in short order we were enjoying our meal. It was very tasty, had great texture and the portions were more than enough. We wouldn't hesitate to order this meal again.

by William Ketner
Another new favorite tried on our last backpacking trip. Great flavor, a tad salty but not too bad. Very filling and another non-standard meal that will be in my pack on future trips!

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a Cook–in–Cozy™ recommended?

We recommend that all of our hot meals spend time "steep-cooking" while snuggled in a Cook-in-Cozy. We find this method promotes a more consistent temperature and steady cook time for Cook-in-Bag preparation; and results in a better serving temperature for your meal. When not in use, our Cook-in-Cozy folds away nicely in your pack for storage and weighs in at only 1.4oz.
