Customer Reviews

I have to say, that Packit Gourmet continues to amaze me with the tastiness and quality of their dehydrated backpacking meals. You owe it to yourself to try a few of them on your next trip. They’re so good, that there’s almost no point in trying to make your own.

Another 5 star trip courtesy of Packit Gourmet. This time out it was the Austintacious Tortilla Soup and the Chicken and Dumplings. Both were fabulous. Not only are their meals fantastic but pricewise - even with shipping factored in - it is cheaper than pretty much any other prepackaged option. I've had great customer service from this company and won't hesitate to buy from them again. Also, the one servings were *more* than enough for me even at the end of a 16 mile day.

I just returned from a 7 day hike on Isle Royale, located in Lake Superior north of Michigan. During this trip we packed all seven days of food with us. I want to relay the thanks and gratitude from my 5 Boy Scouts and the 2 adults for producing some great trail meals. Each dinner was a Packit Gourmet meal. We had chilli, beaf stew, chicken and dumplings, spaghetti, all American burger and chicken salad. They are all wonderful. The boys and adults were surprised at the flavor and portion sizes. In come cases, we were so stuffed that we couldn't eat it all. This was far and away better than any other backpacking food we have used in the past. Again, thank you from being a highlight of trip. Your entire staff should be proud of your products and be proud that it's American made. We will be using Packit Gourmet again.

We are so pleased to be ordering from you. We discovered you on the John Muir Trail last August, 15 days in, when a couple invited us to taste some of your Chicken Salad. OMG. It was so delicious, it became the talk of the trail for hours after that.

My daughter Genie and I have tried many types of meals and both think there is none better than Packit Gourmet. Everything from drinks to deserts and everything tastes great. The chicken tortilla soup rates #1 with us. Nothing better than sitting around the fire at night and having a cup of this soup!

Love your stuff! Look forward to each trip we take and it's nice to know we will be eating like this. The 1st time I ordered from you my 28 yr old son ate all the food you sent us before we even hit the trail! I asked him to just sample it! We had to use that old boring tasteless freezed dried crap. Never again. Thanks for a great product. I tell all my friends that backpack about your company.

I read the article (in Backpacker Magazine) and that prompted me to try your food. I just got back from camping this weekend with my dogs and used your food for every meal. I loved it - as a matter a fact now that I am home I just made the pasta salad - wonderful! A couple of my fellow campers tried it and also liked it! I would definitely make this a must in my pack!

My son just came back from a boy scout 50-miler that took place over 5 "dinners". While I did his breakfast, lunch and one dinner, 4 of his 2-person dinners came from Packit Gourmet. When I asked him how the food situation worked out, he said it was FANTASTIC and quickly followed it up with "WHERE did you get the 'dehy's'?!" Needless to say, while every one of his fellow scouts was dining on whatever they could find locally (we live in a very small town), he was fine-dining and they were all pretty jealous! I just did another shakedown two weeks later as I was preparing to order a few other things, asking him what was his favorite/least favorite - he said everything was GREAT! Thank you for the fantastic choices and QUICK service! We'll be back!

My kids and I were in the Grand Canyon for 5 days in May and tried for the first time..... It was the best I have ever eaten on the trail. I am sure that the more that I use it the better I will get at cooking it too. The Hot Lava cupcakes were the bomb. The tortilla soup and Diner eggs were also incredible. We had 8 or 9 meals as well as desserts and sides and I will be eating them all again as we go out again in So.CA for the 4th of July. I am a customer for life.

Dec. 29, 2010: I hiked 18 miles that day on the Swamp Fox Passage of the Palmetto Trail in the Low Country of SC. Made camp at Cane Gully. As the temperature dropped into the teens, I prepared The Big Easy Gumbo. It was so good it brought tears to my eyes. What a great memory. Thank you Packit Gourmet!

We just returned from a two-week trip to southern Utah, including a 6-day backpack down the Paria River Canyon (and) I wanted to tell you how absolutely delighted we were with Packit Gourmet. We sang your praises to all folks we met on the trail and think we converted a few. (HINT: tell folks to write your website address on a piece of paper and get others to photograph for reference off the trail. They'll remember when they review their photos.)

General Delivery to Kanab, Utah was flawless. And the opening of the package at a little restaurant was like Christmas morning in late April! On the trail we swooned over the chicken salad on our fifth day (especially the Mesquite). Eggs with sausage bits on English muffins were a decadent breakfast one lazy morning. Chocolate Fudge Sauce squeezed onto dried fruit at the top of Observation Point, Zion, made all around us jealous.

I ordered several things from Packit Gourmet prior to my Aug. trip. The shipping was very quick and the quality of the items was excellent. Everything was in quality packaging and tasted great. So, I'd definitely say that they are worth checking out.

I've been using Packit Gourmet for my trail meals for over a year, and you all are awesome. Your meals are so great, and you think of everything we need to make a great meal. So far, we've taken Packit Gourmet meals to Rocky Mountain, Aches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, and Big Bend NPs, and our next trip will be to the Grand Canyon. Thanks so much for your attention to detail.

Holy cow. They do an IMPRESSIVE job! The meals? They contain EVERYTHING you could need, even including biodegradable towelettes! Their packaging is a 10 star job. … So yes, this is a company I would recommend without issues.

I've been backpacking for over 40 years now and have tried every variety of backpacking food and many preparation methods. Your products have to be the best tasting meals I have ever had. Even fresh meal preparation is not as tasty. You have a convert. I now look forward to my next trip along with your many offerings.

Reviews from epic sierra backpack trip. Southwestern Black Bean & Corn Salad is hands-down the best meal I've ever had on the trail. And those dang fruit smoothies saved the day more than once. Kudos!

A few months ago I placed an order for a weekend backpacking trip through the smokies with my wife. I wanted to let you know how thoroughly pleased we both were with your products. We felt like we ate as well or better on the trail as we do at home. Everything we ordered was outstanding, satisfying, and of appropriate portion size for two hungry hikers. This was my wife's first backpacking trip, and I think she thoroughly enjoyed herself (much to her own surprise!). I'm sure a good part of that was due to the great food! Thanks for putting such a wonderful product out there for us campers.

I discovered Packit Gourmet sometime last spring and put in an order for my summer food supply after reading some very positive reviews of their meals. Last year’s (best of) list included Enertia Trailfoods which I still do like, but I found myself getting a bit burned out on their stuff even though I still enjoy it far more than other backpacking food. Packit Gourmet offered some variety and interesting options that I hadn’t seen before so I eagerly tried it out, ordering several different types of meals. The first thing I tried was their Austintacious Tortilla Soup, and it was so good upon arriving home from that trip I immediately ordered more. I’ve gone through many other of their offerings and I have yet to find something that isn’t yummy. I can’t believe I’d say this about any kind of backpacking food, but I swear I could eat their meals at home for regular dinner and be perfectly happy and satisfied.

Really like your products. I wish I would have found you while I was deployed. I tell everybody I know that is headed overseas about your site so they can get those little touches to make mass produced food from the dining hall taste a lot better.

We tried out the many beans salad and the cheese spread today. Impressive! Never before has any prepackaged food tasted better than what I've made myself. Great job! Just put in another order. Yummy!

This summer I’ve been experimenting with meals from Packit Gourmet on the trail. They are without doubt the tastiest commercially available backpacking food I’ve ever had.

I believe in giving credit where credit is due. Great place to find all those little things you KNOW are out there but you just don't wanna do all the running to 12 different places to get 'em. The products I ordered look great and your shipping was very fast. Thank you for the "little something extra" in my order. Little things like that go along way!

Just did a fantastic 5 night trip out in Olympic National Park and gave you guys a test... Well, you passed with flying colors ~~ the Nawlins YaYa Gumbo and the Bangers and Mash both exceeded my expectations. I look forward to testing more on my future outdoor escapades!!

You are awesome. Thanks for putting my order together on a Saturday and shipping it. You give a whole new meaning to customer service.

William G.

I was quite impressed with Packit's service - both in the shipping but also in the customer service that Sarah, one of the owners, gave me. She helped me over the phone and via email in avoiding the couple items that had artificial colors and found substitutes for them.

I love Packit Gourmet freeze dried components. I did lots of freezer bag combos for my last trip and they were better than any of the ready made backpacker freeze dried stuff. I felt like I was getting the veggies I miss in my everyday life…and theirs taste good when they are reconstituted. My base for several of these mixed up combos was whole wheat couscous and I used their freeze dried chicken, beef, or cheese for a protein source. A few spices built a little variety in each meal.

We have tried several of the Packit Gourmet Meals including the Tortilla Soup, Flaquities, All-American Burger Wrap and Many Bean Salad. All were excellent and with the exception of the Flaquities easy to prepare. Surpasses all other freeze dried food I've tried.

Amazing website! Great information and very easy to navigate. Not to mention the unique icons. This is long overdue.
